They are shrouded by mysteries and historical events. Included are pictures of castles, ruins and interactive tasks for young readers whom this book accompanies on a journey of discovery. The second book is a fun read about ghosts of the castle Red Lehota from the a popular Czech author Jiří Holub, translated by Marta Hlušíková. In ancient times they were seen and heard on every major seaside marketplace, until their annexation by the Hellenistic and Roman world. The richly illustrated book accompanies the reader by the fascinating story of Phoenician history. Together with the reader he is overcoming the pitfalls of Phoenician sailing expeditions, visiting Phoenician cities, founding Carthage, Cadiz, and Palermo, traveling to Egypt, Assyria, Israel, ancient Rome and Athens, but especially gives an insight into this, now almost forgotten, civilization. Doc. Mgr. Paul Valachovič, PhD. wrote in his review: ,,The book is unique not only in Slovakia, but also abroad and will certainly contribute to the knowledge of Phoenicians, their culture, religion, economy and their share of active participation in the history of civilizations in the Mediterranean."

Vienna Illuminated Chronicle (Viedenská maľovaná kronika)

Vienna Illuminated Chronicle (Viedenská maľovaná kronika)

Vienna Illuminated Chronicle (in Latin Chronicon Pictum) was written in May in 1358. In the courtyard of king Lois of Great, some unknown author managed to record and process our history in such a rich and wide extent, like to no one before him. After a while, the veil of this mystery was revealed and the authorship of this masterpiece started to be attributed to Mark of Kalt (in Latin Marcus de Kalt) a priest of Saint Peter's Curch in Buda. Whether it was Mark of Kalt, thanks to whom the historical documents were preserved or anyone else, this action was enormously important. We are surely not exaggerating when we say that he made a huge service to science. He documented and retained a vast amount of data, episodes and myths for future generations to come. The work, until today never completely published into Slovak language contains besides the Slovak translation also the Latin version of text with 147 authentic paintings, preserved from the 14th century.

Book, which takes not only the youngest but also the teenagers into a world of fables, the animal kingdom, where animals behave and act like human beings, and therefore it is not surprising, when woodpecker, lynx, lion, slow worm, deer and others start to talk, argue, sing, cook or running a restaurant. Author unusually, suitedly and eloquently pointed out all sorts of human imperfections and deficiencies of the society, outlines the circumstances around which the young and teenage reader in spite of themselves are thinking about. And since a fable would not be a fable without a lesson, Vladimir Leksa offers those to children as well.
